The
Museum of Thebes -Thiva-
Educational Visit
We love the
museum of Thiva...
It is small but it has a great collection of exhibited findings, which
are made of a variety of materials, it has 4 beautiful rooms where you
can see some object you are allowed to touch. There are very helpful people
who work in it and who are always eager and available to help you when
you need them.
But we also love it for its wonderful yard, with the multicolour mosaics
on the walls, with a great number of archaeological findings that decorate
it in an unbelievably charming way;
We also love it for the 'work -space' on the ancient stones under the
trees and finally for the 2 big lions by the entrance which, though are
headless attract children very much!
So
our visit here was the natural consequence of the Kadmia project. The
mothers' help was very important for our transportation from Kaparelli
to Thiva first in the local bus and then when walking to the Museum. There
they left us and they went to have a coffee...

We had arranged
to be the only school in the Museum so that the children could concentrate
better. The guided 'exploration' inside the museum was led by an archaeologist.
The children observed, touched where they could, recognized many exhibited
objects which we had discussed and worked on at school; this gave them
a special joy and self- confidence when moving in the area.
They saw in a natural size what they had discussed, imagined, and contracted
in class. In the yard and when they managed to make both lions to sigh
up... the children had the options to participate in either one or two
small workshops we had prepared: one was to reproduce the traditional
costumes of women priestesses in a procession using the same colours as
on the fresco of the Museum; the other one was to make ceramic bracelets
and jewelry inspired from the above findings...
Of course they chose both.
